Cocoa in France



391,000 tons of chocolate were consumed by the French in 2012, or about 6.7 kg per person. France is the third largest consumer of chocolate in Europe with 16% of the European market.

With a market amounting to € 2.6 billion the French chocolatiers renewed growth. Market recovery finally after 2 years of stable figure, there is a slight increase in 2013 by 2.3%.

During 2013, 378 tons of chocolate were disposed of either 2,000 t more than in 2012.

Chocolate represents nearly 80 companies in France which 90% of SMEs and some large groups such as Cémoi, Ferrero, Lindt, Nestle and international Mondelez.

This represents 30,000 employees, of which 12.2000 employees in industrial production.

There in France 97% of people who eat chocolate at least once a week.

France has the largest from consumers of dark chocolate in the world : 50% of tablets sold in France are dark chocolate.
