According to data compiled by Dulces Noticias market research published by different companies, the chocolate market in Spain increased in 2012, not only in value due the rising prices of raw materials, but also in volume and, more importantly, in most categories.

Magrama A report indicates that the chocolate market in Spain has increased by 10% and reached 1,052 million euros in 2012. According Magrama consumption of chocolate bars rose 9.8%, soluble cocoa rose 3.7%.

The report highlights the need to change the performance of the category of chocolates, which grew 35.5% in 2012, after a significant decline due to the slowdown in consumption and ranked number two after class bars.

Rising raw material costs caused some decline in profitability. However, domestic production increased by 6.6%, driven by a 4.6% increase in exports and a slight decline in imports by 1.7%.

The main export markets are France (29.4% ), Portugal (20.4%), Italy (9.3%), Germany (8.5%), Belgium (7%), United Kingdom (5%) and Algeria ( 4%).
