On 1.45 billion liters, only 1% is supplied locally. Milk consumption per capita in Nigeria is less than 10 liters, while the world average is 40 liters.

Incentives have been put in place by the government to encourage local production of milk. These include credit finance, keeping taxes, reducing tariffs on imported inputs, technical support through research institutions, the export financing and guarantees.

In Nigeria, the leading player in the dairy sector is Promasidor , which holds 22% market share in 2012. The company relies on its long-standing presence in the market and reputation for quality to extend its lead in the market.

Cowbell Promasidor is the most popular drink milk in Nigerian children. Dairy products should increase of 3% over the forecast period. The economy is expected to experience strong growth, disposable income is expected to increase, boosting consumer confidence due to the increased consumption of dairy drink products.
