The milk market in the United States
A report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that milk consumption has been declining since the 70 United States. According to a recent analysis by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, milk consumption in the United States decreased by about 40% percent since 1970.
Reports of government agencies in 1970 indicated a per capita consumption of milk 24 cl per day, whereas now, consumption per capita is only 14 cl per day.
USDA estimates that the reduction in milk consumption is also due to the increase in the number of beverage choices for consumers, including sports drinks, mineral water and soft drinks.
U.S. milk production
In the U.S., milk production increased 1.8% in 2012. The increase should be lower in 2013. It is hoped an increase of 1.1%.
Higher costs of cattle feed had a negative impact on the financial health of a large number of dairy farms. The increase in milk prices should provide a breath of fresh air
During this same period, the total herd has increased from 12.0 million to 9.2 million cows and the average herd size has increased from 20 to 140 cows, producing of milk per cow has also nearly doubled in 30 years.
