Root beer

Root beer, soft drink is one North American origin based on extracts of vanilla, licorice,sassafras, nutmeg and other plants. It is mostly sold in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

In French, the root beer is called beer root beer when alcoholic. Most racinettes are yet soft and serve as soda.

The root beer is a kind of soda is made from plant extracts. It is also known as racinette in Quebec.

The root beer history

Invented in 1870 in Louisiana by the pharmacist Charles Hires, root beer, then lightly alcoholic, contained hops, ginger, vanilla, licorice, sarsaparilla, and different bark (birch, juniper ...).

Nowadays, based between Another vanilla, licorice, nutmeg and sassafras, there are 2 versions: alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The last one is a classic in children, who see a visual resemblance to Dad Beer.

The root beer has experienced a boom during Prohibition in the USA in 1920-1930. The production and consumption of alcohol is banned, breweries are recycled to make root beer which then sold like hot cakes.

Currently, consumption declined supplanted by soda cola.
