Mineral water in Indonesia



Volume growth in retail sales of bottled water in Indonesia has doubled year on year to 2011-from 8% in 2010 to 20 percent in 2011. In 2010, there were 183 local and foreign companies bottling water in Indonesia.


The market for bottled water in Indonesia

The development of new products also reveals an upward curve regards demand of Indonesian consumers. Bottled water, which accounted for 1% of the total Indonesian market non-alcoholic beverages in 2009, was 10% in 2012.

In 2010, the Association of Indonesian bottled water had 183 local and foreign companies bottling water.

Currently, a new product launched ten in the category of soft drinks in Indonesia is bottled water.

In a Indonesian highly fragmented market, Danone Aqua continued to be the undisputed leader in 2012. Excluding trade, the share value of the company has reached nearly 47% in 2012. But Nestlé, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are also increasing their penetration.

Consumer demand for bottled water, supported by increased investment of foreign brands, suppose that the consumption of bottled water in Indonesia can only grow further.

Indonesian mineral water consumption

Indonesian currently drink 49 liters of bottled water per capita against only 29 liters in 2006. Estimated that this will grow to 86 liters per capita in 2016.

In 2009, Indonesia consumed 15.7 billion liters of bottled water, making it one of the largest consumers of Asia, after China.
